Museum Quality

On my recent trip to the other birthplace of Beat literature, I got Huncke on a shelf where it belongs: At The Beat Museum. Jerry, who runs the place, does so out of a loadstone of love. Please, on your next trip to San Francisco, visit The Beat Museum for an informative stroll through a great heritage.

Crucial Document Unsealed

Here is a YouTube clip of the actual Herbert Huncke memorial. The reader, Stewart Meyer, does not figure personally or figuratively in the poem, but his presentation gave me some direction in Cantos One, Three, and Four. The host who introduces him, David Lawton, does not escape characterization in Huncke, and there is a brief glimpse of our narrator here trying to hold on to a pint of Guinness as the camera follows Meyer to the stage. The video presentation, projected against the wall and the crowd, is attributed to David Schmidlapp. It features prominently at the opening and close of the poem. Be there.
